On-Page SEO Checklist That You Need To Do On Periodic Basis

When we talk about On-Page SEO, we know that link building is a never-ending process, but more often we tend to neglect the ON-Page SEO aspects. Site updates, plugin updates, theme updates/changes, adding a new plugin/functionality and other changes that can cause accidental errors could lead to some on-page SEO issues. If you are not looking for these errors proactively, they will go unnoticed and will negatively impact your organic rankings.

On-Page SEO Checkup

Keeping the important things of SEO in mind, here we are going to discuss some important checks that you need to do on a periodic basis to ensure that your On-Page SEO in on point.
Note: Even though this checklist is for people running a WordPress blog, this can be used for any blogger on any platform.

Check your Site for Broken Links:

Web pages with broken links (internal or external link) can potentially lower down your rankings in search results. Even if you can control internal links but, you do not have control over external links.
There is a huge possibility that a webpage or resource that you linked to has been deleted or has been moved to a different URL which results in a broken link. So, that’s why it is necessary to check for broken links periodically.

Check Robots.txt:

Very Important role of Robots.txt in On-Page SEO. When you are using a CMS like WordPress, if you block out some important content like images, javascript, CSS and other resources accidentally that can actually help Google bots in accessing or analyzing your website better.

For example, if you block out wp-content folder in your robots.txt which means blocking out images from getting crawled. So, if the Google bots cannot access images on your website, chances of ranking higher in search results reduces. Also, your images will not be accessible in Google Image Search which further reduces in organic traffic.

Similarly, if the Google bots cannot access CSS or javascript files on your site, they cannot determine that your site is responsive or not. So even if your site is responsive, Google will not consider it, and as a result, your site will not rank well in mobile search results.

Check for Mobile Usability Errors:

Sites which are not responsive do not rank well in Google’s mobile search results. Even though if your site is responsive, there is no particular saying what Google bots will think. Even if you make a small change like blocking a resource can make your responsive site look unresponsive in Google’s view.

So, even if your site is responsive, make it a practice to check periodically that your pages are mobile friendly or if they have any mobile usability errors.

Check and monitor Site Downtimes:

If the site downtime happens frequently, that not only drove visitors away, they also hurt your SEO. That’s why it is necessary to monitor your site’s uptime on a regular basis.

If you experience frequent downtimes with your site, it is time to consider changing your web host.

Conclusion:

So, these are some very important things to check periodically so that your On-Page SEO stays highly optimized.
Performing this checklist on a regular basis will ensure that your on-page SEO is on point and that your rankings are not getting affected without your knowledge.
